The Hyperkin Retron 3 HD offers a good gameplay experience and compatibility with different systems, although some hardware limitations were noted. The console has been reported to work with NES and Sega light phasers when used on a CRT but there is no information about the Super Scope. It does not have a famicom cartridge slot, so an adapter would be necessary. Cartridges can be challenging to put in at first for the Sega port and NES, but it loosens up with use. Only the Supa Retron HD had the issue of playing Japanese Super Famicom games with an improper 480i signal that causes pixel blur. Some gamers found the pin connectors to be very tight and not making sufficient contact with the cartridges to pass any kind of video or audio data. The SNES slot was found to have excessively tight pin connectors. The unit offers HDMI connectivity and can be powered by micro USB cable. The controllers that ship with the device are decent. However, they feel better than the usual bargain basement units. The system can handle both 4:3 and 16:9 screen ratios, and the addition of an NES adapter to use with the SNES controller is a nice addition.
