The nipping jaw is meant for breaking off a small area of glass that has not been pre-scored while the breakout jaw separates cleanly pre-scored areas of glass away. The pliers are light-weight and provide excellent control when breaking glass. However, the base pliers don't close enough to break glass, making it difficult to use. There have also been complaints about missing attachments and the instructions not being clear enough.
