Answer: Beware! I bought this hat with just that in mind. The pom pom can be taken off easily enough, but then the top of the hat is not fully closed, so some repair work is needed. The fact that the hat is lined means the repair needs to be done from the outside and will likely require looking for some matching yarn or at least embroidery floss. Not worth it! -
