Answer: If you're referring to cutting with a torch or plasma cutter the 3.0 works fine for me. All depends on your sensitivity. I prefer the lighter shaded hood. -

Answer: about the same as dark sunglasses!! you would want a #5 for gas welding if that helps!! -
